Grab your family and friends and prepare for an exciting Gold Coast getaway in Burleigh as two exciting events ensue.
BLEACH* Festival
The BLEACH* Festival‘s comeback is first on the list. Mark August 3 to 13 on your calendar. BLEACH*, now in its 12th year, will provide 11 days of experiences in contemporary art, from the Nerang River’s tides to the shores of North Burleigh and Currumbin.
Two of the Gold Coast’s most renowned companies, Everybody NOW! and Corrina Bonshek & Collaborators, serve as the Festival’s bookend acts. With a schedule of opera, jazz, classical, and folk music, the Botanic Gardens are once again the place to hear top-notch music beneath the stars. Bring a blanket and your pals, then relax and have fun.
Meanwhile, the North Burleigh Festival Hub still provides a free live music schedule and outdoor shows.
Catch First Light – Heartland on day one at North Burleigh’s The Esplanade. Watch the first sunbeams reflect off the water as you dig your toes into Burleigh Beach’s sand to mark the beginning of the BLEACH* Festival. A stirring fusion of traditional songlines, poetry, and didgeridoo, Heartland is fronted by Kalkadunga native William Barton and violinist Véronique Serret.
Every weekend of the Festival, starting at noon, the outdoor stage will also feature some of the top musicians from the Coast. While you’re here, take advantage of the whale-watching season.
Whale Watching Season
The majestic humpback whales are migrating along the renowned humpback highway during this time of year. Nobody should miss the wonderful experience of whale watching. If you haven’t already, now is your opportunity.
June through November is considered the whale season months. Most humpback whales migrate north along the east coast from June through August before returning south in September and November. On the Gold Coast, there are many whale-watching excursions to choose from, but if you’d instead observe whales for no cost, there are a few local spots to consider.
Would you like a great view and a good hike? The graded walking routes provide access to Burleigh Heads National Park’s most famous features. The park’s Rainforest Circuit is an excellent place to enjoy a fantastic nature experience. Although this trail is flat for the most part, there is a steep section close to Tumgun Lookout, a stunning location to see humpback whales splashing in the spring and winter. But remember your binoculars to spot the whales and other marine animals better.
Another place is everyone’s preferred hideaway Burleigh Hill, which is close to Burleigh Beach and offers dazzling ocean views to the horizon. All you need to do is spread out a picnic blanket and get your binoculars. The good news is you won’t get bored; just lay out in the sun, take in the scenery, and watch for whales splashing off in the distance.
Plan to avoid missing out and avoid delays. Be sure you reserve your lodging as well. At 2nd Avenue Beachside Apartments, we invite you to take in the BLEACH* festival and the whale-watching season.
