Get ready because it’s time for the 2022 SWELL Sculpture Festival. Observe around 70 sizable contemporary sculptures within Currumbin Beach’s natural surroundings in Queensland from September 9 to 18.
Kylie Mitchell-Smith and Natasha Edwards came up with the idea for SWELL. Their concept, which they called SWELL Sculpture Festival, was ambitious and challenging yet focused on producing work in a welcoming setting. The first event, which featured 23 sculptures, took place in September 2003. With an exhibition of works featuring top-tier Queensland artists Christopher Trotter and Andy Scott (Scotland) and UK artist Nick Horrigan, the outdoor exhibit increased its visibility on the Queensland art scene in 2004. The event expanded to ten days in 2005 and featured the well-liked SWELL Smalls Gallery.
The SWELL Sculpture Festival, a 10-day outdoor sculpture show organised by the people for the people, is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2022. A celebration of narratives and stories told via the works created by local, national, and worldwide artists is something you don’t want to miss.
Additionally, there will be pop-up exhibits across the City of Gold Coast. Below are events you can attend at the 2022 SWELL Sculpture Festival.
